Peaks Of Otter Soil and Water Conservation District

The Peaks of Otter Soil & Water Conservation District is a political subdivision of the State of Virginia. Districts were first established nationwide as a reaction to the 1939 dustbowl. Each district is unique in the services it offers and is overseen by a locally elected board of directors. In Virginia, there are 47 individual districts. The Peaks of Otter Soil & Water Conservation District was formed in 1968 from the Blue Ridge District. The Peaks of Otter Soil & Water Conservation District serves Bedford City and Bedford County.

Our Mission Statement

"To use available technical, financial and educational resources, whatever their source, and focus or coordinate them so that they meet the needs of the local citizens for conservation of soil, water and related resources"

Our Vision

"The Peaks of Otter Soil and Water Conservation District with its partners will provide leadership and education to sustain and utilize Bedford's natural resources in a manner that will enhance soil and water stewardship and foster pride in our District."
