Montana Association of Conservation Districts

Montana’s 58 conservation districts use locally-led and largely non-regulatory approaches to successfully address general natural resource issues. Districts have a decades-long history of conserving our state’s resources by helping local people match their needs with technical and financial resources, thereby getting conservation practices on the ground to the benefit of all Montanans.

For more than seventy years, the Montana Association of Conservation Districts has been contributing to the success of districts all across Montana. Created in 1942, MACD is a private nonprofit association, governed by a statewide Board of Directors, who simultaneously serve as district supervisors in their own districts too. In order to carry out the specific directives of the Board, MACD maintains an office and small staff in Helena. Nationally, MACD works with the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) to influence the activities of federal agencies and Congress.
