Llano County Extension

Llano County was organized in 1856 with Llano as the county seat. The county is located in Central Texas and comprises a major portion of the Central Mineral Region of Texas. It is bounded by the Colorado River on the east; Blanco County and Gillespie County on the south; Mason County on the west; and San Saba County on the north. These boundaries form an area of 947 square miles. Lakes Buchanan and Inks on the Colorado River and Lake LBJ on the Colorado and Llano Rivers are part of the Highland Lakes chain.

The climate of Llano County is mild, with an average annual rainfall of 27.59 inches. The mean maximum temperature in July is 98 degrees F. The average date for the first killing frost is November 13, and the average date for the last killing frost is March 29.
