James C. Gardill

James C. Gardill is the managing partner of the firm and focuses his practice on banking law, commercial law, tax law and estate planning.

Mr. Gardill received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from West Liberty State College in 1968. He earned his law degree from West Virginia University in 1973. While at West Virginia, Jim was a Note Editor for the West Virginia Law Review.

Mr. Gardill has extensive experience in bank regulatory matters and in bank mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Gardill has been associated with Wesbanco, Inc. and its various affiliate banks in providing legal services for the past 30 years. He has served as Chairman of Wesbanco, Inc. from June 1, 1990 to August 31, 2003, and served as a member of the Board of Directors of Wesbanco and its principal affiliate bank, Wesbanco Bank, Inc from 1980 until August 31, 2003.

Mr. Gardill has lectured on a number of tax and commercial law subjects, and is a former lecturer at the Tri-State Tax Institute, Commercial Law Institute at the College of Law, the West Virginia Bankers Association, and other continuing legal education programs. Mr. Gardill also serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at the West Virginia University School of Law.

Mr. Gardill is admitted to practice in the State of West Virginia and before the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He is a member of the West Virginia State Bar, the Ohio County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He currently serves as Chairman of the State and Federal Taxation Committee of the West Virginia State Bar Association.
