Hopkins County Extension

Hopkins County is located in Northeast Texas approximately 70 miles East of Dallas and 100 miles West of Texarkana, Hopkins County is located between Lake Fork and Cooper Lake.The County seat is located in Sulphur Springs. Hopkins County has seven school districts: Sulphur Springs, Cumby, Miller Grove, Como, Saltillo, Sulphur Bluff and North Hopkins. Hopkins County is home of more than 60 dairies, mostly family owned and operated, several beef operations (mostly cow-calf), horses and more. Hopkins County has numerous lakes, ponds, creeks and smaller tributaries and is one of the most important hay producers in Texas.

 Hopkins County 4-H members recently competed in the Ft Worth Dairy Judging Contest and also District IV 4-H judging contest.Pictured left to right are: Matti Smith, Elida Miller, Savannah Allen, and Tripp Smith.  In the Ft worth contest, they received 2nd place team in Brown Swiss judging and 5th place overall Jr team. In the District 4-H Contest the received 2nd place junior team.  Savannah was named 3rd high Junior individual and Elida was named 5th high individual (Photo by Sara Allen).
