Gila Bend NRCD

The Gila Bend NRCD is a large district located in lower Gila River Valley and the desert areas to the south. Most of the District is arid shrublands with some irrigated farming and dairies along the Gila River. Since most of the land outside the farming area is federal land and much of it is in wildlife preserves or military reservations, the main focus of the District has been on irrigated farming.

The District takes the lead in organizing and facilitating technical assistance and cost sharing for its coop- erators to implement conservation practices designed to conserve water and increase crop yields. Such practices include irrigation water delivery systems, sprinklers, crop rotations, land leveling, and other measures to improve agricultural viability.

The District cooperates with the Buckeye Valley NRCD in operating an education center which provides information to schools, community organizations, and other entities to explain how agriculture benefits the local economy and what it is doing to make farming more efficient and environmentally friendly.
