Corpus Christi Aquifer Storage and Recovery Conservation District

The Corpus Christi Aquifer Storage and Recovery Conservation District (District) is committed to manage and protect the groundwater resources of the District, including those injected into the ground for storage and later use. The District is committed to maintaining a sustainable, adequate, reliable, cost effective and high quality source of groundwater to promote the vitality, economy and environment of the District. The District will work with and for the citizens of the District and cooperate with other local, regional and state agencies involved in the study and management of groundwater resources. The District shall take no action without a full consideration of the groundwater needs of the citizens of the District.

What is Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR)?

ASR is a water management strategy where treated water is pumped underground to be stored. When the water is needed, it is pumped back to the surface where it is used. ASR is used because it provides a method of water storage which is not subject to evaporation nor requires disturbing the land surface.

Water Well Registration and Permitting

The District has authority to permit water wells within its boundaries. The District encompasses most of the City of Corpus Christi’s city limits. See the District Map here. If you plan on constructing a non-exempt (including industrial and large agricultural) water well, you must apply through the District to be permitted. Exempt wells (including residential wells using less than 25,000 gallons per day) are encouraged to register their wells. Applications for permits and registrations can be found at the bottom of this webpage.
