Bass Hill Wildlife Area

This wildlife area consists of approximately 5,600 acres of rolling hills, mostly of sagebrush and grasslands. The area was acquired to preserve winter range for the Bass Hill sub-herd of the Doyle deer herd. Coyotes, California and mountain quail, and golden eagles can also be seen here. The property was designated as a wildlife area by the Fish and Game Commission in 1977.

Recreational Opportunities

Activities: hunting, wildlife viewing, and birdwatching

Passes: A CDFW Lands Pass must be in possession by each visitor who is 16 years of age or older, however, visitors who are in possession of a valid California hunting or fishing license in their name are exempt from this requirement. Lands passes may be purchased on-line, by phone at (800) 565-1458, or in-person at locations wherever hunting and fishing licenses are sold.

School and organized youth groups, including accompanying adults, are exempt from the lands pass requirement, but should contact the area to schedule a field trip at least two weeks in advance.

Hunting: Deer, rabbit, waterfowl, quail, and dove may be present. The Egan Unit shall be open to the use of shotguns, archery equipment or muzzle-loading weapons, for all hunting seasons.

Type C: Bass Hill Wildlife Area does not require the purchase of a hunting pass for entry. Entry permits and/or passes or special drawing may be required for hunting on some Type C wildlife areas.
