Upper Hondo Soil and Water Conservation District

The Upper Hondo Soil & Water District was created in July, 1941 and is a governmental subdivision of the State of New Mexico, organized under State Law (Chapter 73, Article 20). The district has grown through six additions from its original size of 696,800 acres to its present area of 1,073,426 acres, the majority of which is located in Lincoln County, with a smaller portion in Chaves County.

The purpose of the organization is to provide farmers, ranchers and small tract urban land owners the opportunity to take advantage of new programs. It is our intention to outline both old and new problems in soil and water conservation in the light of changing demands of a rapidly increasing population. Our hope is that all landowners, individuals and organizations may be familiar with our soil and water conservation problems and thereby be in a better position to help bring about the best solutions to these problems.
