  • Siskiyou County - 5 miles west of Macdoel and Highway 97
Special Restrictions:
  • Boats with motors are prohibited.
  • 13,392 acres of wetlands, sage flats, and farmlands, including 4,000 acre Meiss Lake
  • From Highway 97 just south of Macdoel, go 5 miles west on Meiss Lake Road
Recreational Use:
  • Type B Area
  • Camping, hiking, and wildlife viewing are permitted. A great area for viewing waterfowl, bald eagles and sandhill cranes. See birding checklist for additional information on bird species seen at Butte Valley.
  • Waterfowl, coots, moorhens, snipe, pheasant and doves is permitted during open seasons.
