Agritourism in Arkansas

Agritourism is a business on a working farm, or other agricultural enterprise that offers an educational and fun experience for visitors while generating supplemental income for the owner.  These activities can be as simple as U-pick gardens, farm arts & crafts, seasonal festivals, or just about any agricultural activity that augments traditional farm income.

This concept is a direct expansion of ecotourism, which emphasizes authenticity.  Agritourism is gathering strong support from small communities as rural people have realized the benefits of sustainable development brought about by similar forms of natural heritage tourism.  Visitors may have the opportunity to work in the fields alongside real farmers or wade knee-deep in the sea with fishermen hauling in their nets.

In Arkansas, check out the state's agritourism page, for a list of agritourist destinations.  The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture also hosts agritourism training events from time to time.
